A Guide for Parents & Carers
Supporting your child’s health journey is a team effort – and when parents and practitioners work together with clarity and consistency, kids progress faster, enjoy the process more, and feel genuinely proud of what they achieve. Here are the top five things we’ve found make the biggest difference to your child’s confidence, engagement, and long-term results.
1. One Coach, One Voice: Less Cueing = Better Learning
Kids learn best when they can focus on one clear source of instruction.
During sessions, your practitioner will be the sole coach giving cues, instructions, and feedback. This isn’t to exclude you – it’s to prevent the over-cueing effect, where too many voices or well-intended corrections create:
- Confusion
- Performance anxiety
- Reduced enjoyment
- Slower learning
You’re absolutely encouraged to observe, take notes, and share insights with us after the session or via a quick check-in. If you spot something or feel there’s a better way we can support your child, we welcome that feedback wholeheartedly – just outside the exercise moment to protect their focus and confidence.
2. It Might Look Like Play… And It Often Is!
Children don’t always respond well to “workouts” – but they respond beautifully to playful, engaging challenges with purpose behind them. Our sessions often include:
- Games
- Obstacle setups
- Creative challenges
- Colour, drawing, whiteboards
- Speed, balance, and reaction tasks
Underneath the fun is a carefully designed method based on your child’s goals, developmental level, and current capacity.
Fun → Trust → Engagement → Skill → Consistency → Results
That’s the progression that works.
So if it looks like play… it’s intentional!
3. We Start With Structure: Plans & Clear Expectations
At the beginning of each session, we create a micro-plan with your child, either through dialogue or using a whiteboard. This is so they know:
- What we’re working on
- How we’ll measure success today
- What choices or challenges they can pick
- How their program links to their bigger goals
This builds ownership, motivation and self-regulation – three pillars for long-term progress.
It also allows the practitioner to pace the session based on energy levels, attention, and any new insights you or your child share at the start.
4. The Last 5 Minutes Matter: Pack-Up & Debrief
Ending a session well is just as important as beginning one well.
We intentionally reserve the final 5 minutes for:
- Packing up together (teamwork, responsibility, routine)
- Reviewing what they achieved today
- Discussing what’s coming next with both you and them
- Encouraging self-reflection (“What did you notice?” “What felt easiest today?”)
- Handling admin, bookings, questions, or feedback from you
This ensures your child doesn’t experience an abrupt “finish,” which can feel disorienting or rushed – especially for kids who thrive on predictability. It also empowers them to leave feeling successful, calm, and ready for the next session.
5. Keep Consistency at Home: Small Wins > Big Overhauls
Parents often ask what they should do between sessions.
Here’s our philosophy: keep it doable.
The best support at home includes:
- Encouraging the one or two simple exercises we agree on
- Praising effort, not perfection
- Creating small success rituals (e.g., “show me one thing you learned today”)
- Not comparing progress with siblings or peers
- Maintaining consistent routine around sleep, hydration, activity
- Letting kids “own” their progress instead of making it feel like homework
Consistency beats intensity every time.
Bonus Tips That Make a Big Difference;
✔ Share anything new before we start
A tough day at school? Sore leg? Shy mood? These things shape how we tailor the session.
✔ Aim for on-time arrivals
Kids settle better when they don’t feel rushed walking in.
✔ Celebrate the small wins
We’ll point them out – feel free to reinforce them at home.
✔ Be patient with plateaus
Kids progress in waves. Trust the process. We always have a plan.
The Takeaway: We’re a Team – With Your Child at the Centre
